1Unter dem Archon Diotimos; die Antigonis hatte die
2siebte Prytanie inne, für die Lysistratos S.d. Aristomachos
3aus (dem Demos) PaianiaV Sekretär war; im Gamelion am
4alten und neuen, dem neunundzwanzigsten (Tag) der Prytanie;
5Volksversammlung; von den Vorsitzenden leitete die Abstimmung - - -
6S.d. - -osthenes aus (dem Demos) Xypete und seine Mitvorsitzenden.
7Beschluss des Volkes; Agyrrhios S.d. Kallimedon aus (dem Demos) Kollyte
8stellte den Antrag: Da auch schon früher die Vorfahren des
9Spartokos Nutzen erwiesen haben dem Volk,
10und nun Spartokos von ihnen die Partnerschaft zu dem Volk
11übernommen hat und sowohl insgesamt dem Volk Nutzen
12erweist als auch speziell den Athenern, die zu
13ihm kommmen, wofür das Volk der Athener sie auch
14zu Bürgern gemacht und sie geehrt hat mit Standbildern
15aus Bronze auf der Agora und im Handelszentrum, und auch
16mit anderen Ehren, mit denen billigerweise die
17guten Männer geehrt werden, und ferner beschlossen hat, wenn jemand
18in das Reich seiner Vorfahren oder des Spartokos selbst
19eindränge, mit aller Kraft zu Hilfe zu kommen, zu Lande und
20zu Wasser; und da schließlich Spartokos, als er von der aus Athen
21angekommenen Gesandtschaft hörte, dass das Volk
22sich der Stadt bemächtigt habe, sich über dieses Ereignis
23gemeinsam mit dem Volk gefreut und als Geschenk fünfzehntausend
24Medimnen Getreide gegeben hat und verspricht,
25auch in Zukunft Nutzen zu erweisen dem
26Volk der Athener, soweit es in seiner Macht stehe, und
27dies tut in der Absicht, das Wohlwollen
28gegenüber dem Volk zu bewahren, welches ihm
29von den Vorfahren überkommen ist; – Damit nun auch in öffentlicher
30Weise das Volk Ehrgeiz zeigt für die, die
31in der Vergangenheit ihm wohlwollend geblieben
32sind, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen das Volk: dass man
33belobige den König Spartokos S.d. Eumelos - - -
34- - - und bekränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß
35dem Gesetz wegen seiner Leistung und seines Wohlwollens, das er
36stets gegenüber dem Volk hegt, und den Kranz verkündige
37an den Großen Dionysien bei der Tragödien-
38Aufführung; dass für die Anfertigung des Kranzes und
39die Verkündigung Sorge tragen die Finanzverwalter;
40dass man auch ein Standbild aus Bronze von ihm aufstelle auf der
41Agora neben denen seiner Vorfahren und ein anderes auf der
42Akropolis; dass man, damit der König Spartokos auch erfahre
43die Beschlüsse des Volkes, wähle drei Männer
44aus allen Athenern, die
45nach ihrer Wahl aufbrechen und den Beschluss
46abgeben und das Wohlwollen melden werden, das
47das Volk für ihn hegt, und ihn darum bitten werden,
48dem Volk zu helfen, wie es in seiner Macht steht; dass
49man jedem der Gesandten das festgesetzte Reisegeld
50gebe; – Damit es auch eine Erinnerung an die
51Partnerschaft und die Ehrungen gibt, die ihm zu den bereits
52bestehenden hinzugefügt wurden: dass der Sekretär,
53der während der Prytanie amtiert, diesen Beschluss
54auf eine steinerne Stele aufzeichne und auf die Akropolis aufstelle;
55dass die Finanzverwalter die entstandenen Kosten

1In the archonship of Diotimos, in the seventh prytany,
2of Antigonis, for which Lysistratos son of Aristomachos
3of Paiania was secretary. On the old and new day of Gamelion,
4the twenty-ninth of the prytany.
5Assembly. Of the presiding committee - - -  son of
6- -osthenes of Xypete was putting to the vote and his fellow presiding committee members.
7The People decided. Agyrrhios son of Kallimedon of Kollytos
8proposed: since both previously the ancestors of
9Spartokos have been of service to the People, and
10now Spartokos has taken on this relationship with
11the People and is of service both collectively to the People and
12individually to those Athenians who come
13to him, in exchange for which the Athenian People made
14them citizens and honoured them with bronze statues
15both in the Agora and the market and
16with other awards with which it is proper to honour
17good men, and committed themselves, in the event someone
18challenged the rule of his ancestors or of Spartokos,
19to help with full force both by land and
20by sea; and further, Spartokos, when on the arrival
21of an embassy from Athens he heard that the People had delivered
22the city, was delighted at the success
23of the People and gave a gift of 15,000 medimnoi
24of grain, and in addition declares
25that for the rest of time he will be of service to the
26Athenian People as far as he is able, and he does
27this with the express purpose of safeguarding the
28good will for the People passed down
29to him from his ancestors; so that the People may be seen
30to be honour-loving towards those who are mindful
31of their good will to it in earlier times,
32for good fortune, the People shall decide: to praise
33the king Spartokos son of Eumelos - - -
34- - - and to crown him with a gold crown according
35to the law for the excellence and good will which he continues
36to have for the People, and to announce the crown
37at the tragedy competition of the great Dionysia;
38and the board of administrators shall manage
39the making of the crown and the announcement;
40and to stand a bronze statue of him in the
41Agora alongside his ancestors and another on the acropolis;
42and so that king Spartokos knows
43what the People decided, to elect three
44men as ambassadors from all the Athenians, who
45when chosen will set sail and both present
46the decree and announce the good will which
47the People has for him, and request him
48to help the People, as far as he is able; and they shall give
49the agreed travelling expenses to each of the ambassadors;
50and so that there might be a memorial of the relationship
51and the awards to him that have been added to
52those existing already, the prytany
53secretary shall inscribe this decree
54on a stone stele and stand it on the acropolis;
55and the board of administrators shall allocate the
56expenditure accrued.
